Umhlanga Ridge is a commercial area dominated by Gateway Theatre of Shopping, a vast upscale mall with global fashion brands, a multiplex cinema, and a wide variety of eateries, as well as a bowling and a water park. The district is also home to Kwazulu-Natal Sharks Board Maritime Centre of Excellence, a shark-themed museum with maritime exhibits and audiovisual displays
